Operations and Administration

HDA currently staffs multiple housing nonprofits. By serving as staff, hired by the board directly, these organizations—whether emerging and established—benefit from dedicated, long-term engagement beyond what traditional consulting services can offer. These arrangements also deliver a multitude of skills and experience at a fraction of the cost required to hire full-time staff.

While in some cases HDA has staffed nonprofits continuously for open-ended periods, these services are more commonly used as a way to transition an organization from infancy to sustainability, including the hiring of dedicated staff.

HDA’s book of business is currently full for long-term staffing services. However, we are happy to explore transitional capacity building and organizational services with new potential clients.

Examples:

HDA has staffed HousingForward Virginia since 2010 and the Maggie Walker Community Land Trust since 2017. Other nonprofits HDA helped establish and provide staff services to include the Virginia Statewide Community Land Trust, the Manufactured Home Community Coalition of Virginia, and the Richmond Heirs Property Network.

Examples of work we provide:

Administration

We help start-ups to launch by providing staff support to organizations that are not ready to hire permanent staff. For some clients, long term staff relationships also make sense.

Training

We create and conduct educational workshops for a range of housing and development topics.

Event Coordination

We manage the logistics of events of all sizes from start to finish.

Marketing & Communications

We design strategies and materials to explain housing issues to a variety of audiences.

Planning

We work with organizations to build strategic and operational plans.

Advocacy

We develop public policy and advance it with elected officials and public administrators.
